Aerospace Engineer
Job Description:
Candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary engineering design group with responsibilities for a core business capability. The group has responsibility for new product designs, current product upgrades and engineering product support for all fixed wing and ducted fan VTOL aircraft in the 5 lb to 1,000 lb vehicle take off gross weight range.
Responsibilities may include any of the following: • Participate in aircraft product improvement projects and R&D design projects as part of a team of multidisciplinary engineers. • Conduct analytical, developmental, design, and test assignments, related to unmanned aircraft concepts, products and technologies. • Participate in the development of aircraft concepts, configurations and designs, performing requirements analysis and trade studies, aerodynamic and mechanical design and analysis, aircraft structural layout and feasibility design and testing. • Supervise rapid prototyping, tests and evaluations • Provide aircraft flight test support. • Interface with internal and external customers and suppliers of aircraft components and subsystems as needed. • Design for producibility, maintainability and reliability and supporting airworthiness certification release. • Provide engineering support for: airframe fabrication, field product support, technical publications, incident investigation and analysis. • May generate schedules, personnel requirements and maintain the engineering budget for a portion of a project or for an entire project with low technical risks. • Supervise and/or prepare, present and review formal reports such as; test plans, test reports and proposals, including technical discussions and preparation of cost data. • Participates in and may be responsible for material, component and subcontractor selection. • May train and/or mentor less skilled personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or directly related discipline.
Minimum 6 years related work experience with Aircraft design and analysis with strong technical background
Skills Needed:
Must have a strong engineering knowledge base, to include one or more of the following disciplines: • Aircraft Design: Experience in conceptual and detailed aircraft design to include the full design cycle, from concept to flight. Aircraft fuel system integration, avionics and payload integration, weapon systems integration. • Aerodynamics: Aircraft configuration design and analysis, performance prediction and aerodynamic loads analysis. Wind tunnel test experience a plus; Subsonic and transonic aerodynamics, aerodynamic analysis, CFD, wind tunnel testing, flight testing and performance analysis, experience in propeller driven aircraft and rotorcraft aerodynamics. • Aerostructures: Design of aircraft structures with specific emphasis on composite design. Knowledge and understanding of various composite manufacturing processes a plus. Experience in aircraft structural layout, design to FAA certification, classical structural analysis, FEA, experience supervising structural analysis teams, experience leading structural design of airframes. • Propulsion: Aircraft propulsion integration (IC and turboprop), familiarity with electric propulsion and UAV electrical systems. • Flight mechanics: Knowledge of basic aircraft dynamics and automated flight control. Familiarity with guidance and control systems, aircraft stability and control design. Autopilot design experience a plus. • Aero-systems Integration: Basic engineering principles as applied to integration of electronics and sensors on aircraft. Experience with Military or Commercial Aircraft design standards. Experience with FAA flight worthy certification process is a plus. • Design for Fabrication: Experience in design for fabrication and controlled cost. Familiarity with engineering processes pricing tools and cost optimization software a plus. Computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Office applications. Experience with 3D CAD, FEA, CFD, Mathcad or MatLab software desired. Must have competent technical writing and oral communication skills using the English Language. Must be U.S. citizen, able to obtain and maintain a SECRET US security clearance. Occasional travel to suppliers, customers, and test locations is required.
